If I ever loved you

If there was ever a time I loved you most, it is now
As you tell me you don’t love me anymore
the conviction in your eyes, missing all these years,
as you tell me of the woman you met
who makes your heart beats loudest
she is the one, who makes you feel whole

I have never loved you as much as I do now
as you tell me you are getting married tomorrow
that you are sorry for the late notice
I should understand why I can’t be invited
you do love me                                                                                                                                     But our years couldn’t hold a candle to the two months
She makes you feel whole
could I be nice and give u back your grandma’s ring
This is what freedom feels like

If I ever loved you, it is now.

So I originally wrote this on April 20, 2015, edited it on June 6, 2016 and I just saw it sitting in my drafts. So I’m thinking why not publish it now? I wanted to change it up a bit but I have no idea where I was going with it. Do enjoy it. or Not. lol. Cheers

Flash Fiction 3: Lace Panties

Chocolate, Cupcakes & Kola

I woke up and reached for my bag, thanking God for my ingenuity. I pulled the  fresh top over my head and walked to the dressing mirror. I look gorgeous, I know this, but a little vanity never killed anyone. I open the closet and start trying on the clothes. I’m not sure why I do this, I know every dress here. I pick up the almost full bottle of Chanel no. 5, and briefly consider switching it with the one in my bag.

I notice the huge diamond studs. I don’t have this type. They are new, I try them on and I love them. Maybe, I’ll take them with me. I notice the note on the bedside table.

Hi, I trust you can let yourself out. Leave the keys with Ama, Kwamina. The bastard.

I’m not sure why I do this anymore. It used to be fun. Lately…

Incredible India

After spending almost two weeks here in India, It would be a great disservice on my part if I do not blog about it because India is just beautiful.

The thought of moving to India for two months both excited & filled me with loads of apprehension. My flight from Accra to Addis Ababa was cool but for the food which was not  bad but took some getting used to. After spending five really cold hours in transit at Bole international airport, I was ready for India.

Selfies before we took off

India has been kind to me so far. From being very cold to warm and sunny. Neisbud has been great, the faculty awesome, and the people super friendly. Although I’m learning not to shake my head when I want to say no as I suspect that means an entirely different thing in India.

The  food did take some getting used to and I’m still learning the names of the dishes here, but I’m glad to say I’m beginning to enjoy Indian cuisine, though I don’t know what goes with what yet.

img_20170204_160423And I have already visited the Lotus Temple, which was simply divine, a Hindu Temple which was beyond amazing, the India Gate, and the Sorjin Gazar market in Delhi where I sharpened my negotiation skills.

I’m simply in love with Neisbud, the faculty, Noida. I look forward to sharing my experience of India with you.

For now, I have just two words: Incredible India!

So your Boyfriend’s Best friend is a girl…

You’ve met this cute guy, who is lots and lots of fun and you are convinced that he’s the stuff that sweet dreams are made of and everything is going on perfectly. Well, almost. His best friend is a girl. That’s not so bad, right? No? Ok. Does it matter?

Having a girl for a best friend is not the problem, but when you start feeling like you have to compete with the best friend for his time and attention, then you probably have a problem. Your first instinct may be to run far far away and you may be right. Although I’m a firm believer that people can be just friends, you should trust your instinct. I’ve heard stories where the boyfriend ends up marrying the best friend who was really just a friend so no, you are not overacting should you choose not to stay. It all comes down to your instincts. If it smells funny, it’s probably rotten.

But, and here’s a big but, should you choose to stay, you could try to get to know his best friend. You will definitely not become besties overnight and you may even end up liking her. After all, you all love the same man. The goal to a healthy relationship is (should be) trust.  She may be his best friend but for whatever reason he chose you and that should be enough. Stop looking for signs that aren’t there. Enjoy your relationship, and as cliché as this may sound, trust that if it’s meant to be, it will be.

When your boyfriend’s best friend is a girl, all your insecurities may come out to play, especially if he’s all about her. It is important to note that friendships don’t just happen and it probably took years for them to build what they have now so it may pointless, even disastrous, making an enemy of the best friend.  If you think he is choosing her over you a lot, talk about it with him. Tell him how that makes you feel and how you think it’s affecting your relationship, if your relationship means a lot something to him, he will think of ways to not make you feel like a second fiddle. If not, then maybe, he’s just not that into you.

Have you ever been in such a situation? How did you handle it?

Just because it’s Monday, and I’m crushing on Toni Morrison. Home was my first Toni Morrison novel and I loved it. Here are 2 quotes from Home.

“his bed was where they slept and where the great thing people warned about or giggled about took place. It was not so much painful as dull. Cee thought it would get better later. Better turned out to be simply more, and while the quantity increased, its pleasure lay in its brevity.”
-Toni Morrison, Home

“Misery don’t call ahead. That’s why you have to stay awake—otherwise it just walks on in your door.” – Toni Morrison
